Dr Madhu Maharaj
Dr Madhu Maharaj qualified as a homoeopathic doctor with a Master’s Degree in Homoeopathy from the Durban University of Technology (DUT). She is also a certified Ayurvedic Primary Health Advisor. Dr Maharaj has been in active Homoeopathic practice for 23 years. She began her practice in Pietermaritzburg, Chatsworth, Durban Central and has settled to practicing in Westville since 2004.
Dr Maharaj has been actively involved in the training of homoeopaths in South Africa having served as a senior lecturer at the Department of Homoeopathy at the DUT for 20 years where her specialization is in Materia Medica, Homoeopathic research and clinical supervision. Dr Maharaj led the Department of Homoeopathy at the DUT having served as the Head of Department of Homoeopathy, at the DUT in the years 2017 to 2020.
Dr Maharaj is registered as a Homoeopathic doctor with the Allied Health Practitioners Council of South Africa( AHPCSA). She is a member of the Homoeopathic Association of South Africa(HAS) and has served on the National Board of the Homoeopathic Association of South Africa in the years 2017 to 2020. Dr Maharaj is also a member of the Liga Medicorum Homoeopathica Internationalis (LMHI) which is an international association of medical homoeopaths.
Dr Maharaj has a keen and avid interest in advancing homoeopathic research in South Africa.She has actively supervised over 40 Master’s Degree dissertations in the field of Complementary and Alternative Medicine (CAM) and Homoeopathy and is currently supervising numerous students. Her special areas of homoeopathic research are Homoeopathic clinical trials, Homoeopathic proving clinical trials, remedy group analysis and CAM qualitative studies.
Dr Maharaj is currently a member of a South African team, engaged in international research collaboration regarding clinical trials, with the greater international homoeopathic industry. She has presented homoeopathic research papers on indigenous provings at the Liga Medicorum Homoeopathica Internationalis (LMHI) in 2014 in Paris, in 2016, in Argentina and in 2018, in South Africa. Dr Maharaj served a as a scientific reviewer on the Scientific Committee of the LMHI 2018 congress in Cape Town.
She has delivered various lectures, workshops, radio and television interviews on Homoeopathy, Ayurveda, Yoga and Spirituality.
In addition to her academic and research portfolio and managing her private practice in Westville, for 23 years, Dr Maharaj also manages and participates various community engagement clinics in Durban.
